Question

Where do I input distributions from MI Classroom Heroes Grant Distribution (Hazard Pay)?

We received $500 for Michigan MI Classroom Heroes Grant Distribution. On the Michigan treasury website, it states "Grant funds are subject to tax. Taxes were NOT withheld and will be required to be included in the recipients' taxable income calculations."

Questions:

1. Should I be expecting a form be sent to me for this?

2. Where do I actually input this into TurboTax?

Good questions.  Yours is the first post I've seen.  As you stated, the Michigan treasury website makes no mention of an IRS 1099.  The general rule is $600 is the threshold for a 1099 to be required.

Lacking any specific direction; I would enter it as other income;

In TurboTax (TT), enter at:
- Federal Taxes tab (Personal in  Home & Business)

 - Wages & Income

Scroll down to:

-Less Common Income

      -Misc Income, 1099-A, 1099-C

       - On the next screen, choose – Other reportable income

       - On the next screen, click yes

       - On the next screen, you'll get blanks to enter the amount and a description. It will go on line 8z of Schedule 1 as "Other Income"
