If this is your first time entering your school information, here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "1098t" and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1098t
  • On the screen, Now Let's gather XYZ's Additional Education Expenses
  • Follow prompts
  • Next screen, Your Education Expenses Summary, select Edit
  • Next screen Here's Your Education Summary, under Tuition, select Edit to enter tuition information

Please also note that, for the portion of tuition or book expenses you pay with your student loan, you can still claim them as you are required to pay back in the future.  It is treated as if you actually pay.

Are you referring to student loan?  Did you receive a Form 1098-T?

Yes got 1098t with box 2 chkd and box 7 filled in but we pay out of pocket part of tuition directly to school because loan wasnt big enough. So where do you enter that and book expenses?

I paid part of my tuition fee out of pocket the the trade school. Where do I fill that in the 1098T Form?

When you input the 1098-T, box 1 has the total paid. Box 5 shows any scholarships. The difference would be what you paid. You can also add expenses for books, internet (COVID related), and other supplies required for school.
