Your mortgage interest credit rate is found on your mortage credit certificate.

If you qualify for a mortgage interest credit on IRS form 8396, you have been issued a mortgage credit certificate from your state's issuing agency.

Information on the mortgage credit certificate includes:

    • Name of the issuer of the certificate,
    • Certificate number,
    • Date the certificate was issued,
    • Credit rate percentage.

The certificate is issued just once and is not issued each year like the IRS form 1098 is issued each year.

You may need to return to your tax return records from last year to find your mortgage credit certificate.

Or you may want to return to last year's IRS form 8396.  The rate is displayed on line 2.

If you filed the prior year tax return through your TurboTax account, select Tax Home in the upper left hand corner of the screen.  Click the down arrow to the right of Your tax returns & documents.
