Question

Where to enter room and board as qualified higher education expenses in TurboTax? Thanks.

My 1099-Q distribution covers both tuition and other costs. But this year TurboTax only allows me to enter tuition and books/materials. Now the non-tuition and non-books/materials distribution is taxed per TurboTax.

Never mind, I found the place. Now tuition, books, room and board, and etc. are all available in the form. I wish TurboTax would have made these non-deductible items available when asking for deductible costs (like tuition and books).

The 1099-Q does not need to be entered if used entirely for deductible expenses but I think entering it and the expenses is nice just to save possible future issues. Good job!
