Where would I enter education expenses related to obtaining an advanced certification such as lean six sigma black belt?

You can unlikely claim any education expenses related to your certification, unfortunately.  Here is why:

There are three types of the education tax breaks:

1.  American Opportunity Tax Credit AOTC- you won't qualify as this is offered to taxpayers who is pursuing their first four-year bachelor degree.  This is related to academic degree program.

2.  Tuition and Fees Deduction and Lifetime Learning Tax Credit- Although you do not have to be in a degree program, your school has to be one of the eligible education institutions that is in compliance with the Department of Education.  To verify, click here: US schools
