Question

Why can't my parents claim me and my school tuition this year I was still 24 in December but I only made less than 14000 for the year they pay my bills?

You have to be UNDER 24 as of December 31 of the tax year.

In order for your parents to claim you once you have turned 24, all of the following requirements must be met:

  • They provided more than half of your financial support. More info
  • You made less than $4,200 in gross income during 2019
  • You live with you for all 12 months
  • You are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
  • You aren't (or won't be) claimed as a dependent by someone else.
  • You aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse.
  • They are not being claimed as a dependent on someone else's return.
