Question

Why is my final review showing that I have a lifetime learning credit, when my state deductions says i don't have one? Its forcing me to buy the deluxe turbotax.

I don't qualify for a lifetime learning credit and it's marked as $0 in my state section. But, its blocking me from filing and claiming i have one.

The Lifetime Learning Credit is a Federal Credit for Education Expenses.

It reduces your Federal Tax, up to $2,000. The credit is calculated on Form 8863. Since this form is not supported by the free edition, you are being asked to upgrade.

You can look at the amount of your Federal Tax due and the amount of credit you can receive to see if it is worth it to upgrade.  Here's more info on How to Calculate your Lifetime Learning Credit.

If you don't want to claim the credit, you can delete Form 1098-T from your return (if you entered one) and also Delete Form 8863 from your return.  Here's more info on How to Remove the Lifetime Learning Credit.
