Why would it say that my four year old son has paid for more than half of his living expense and cannot be a dependent?

You answered the question in MY INFO incorrectly.   Click his name in MY INFO, and go back through the screens.  It asks if the child paid for over half his own support---you need to say NO.

You probably made a mistake and selected that he paid for more than one-half of his own support.  Also, on the Social Security number screen, do Not check the box labeled "not valid for employment".

Review your answers for your four-year-old dependent or delete him ad add him again.  Somehow, a box was checked that shouldn't have been.

To edit your dependent in TurboTax:

    • For TurboTax Online, go to the Personal profilscreen.
    • For TurboTax Desktop, open your tax return and select Personal Info.

Select Edit next to your dependent.
