There are several reasons why you may not receive an educational tax credit.

Did you receive any scholarships or tuition assistance? Those amounts would be subtracted from your qualified educational expenses.

Was some of your education paid from a 529 plan or Coverdell Education Savings Account? If you waived the education credit and paid all your qualified education with a 529/Coverdell withdrawal, then you would receive no credit.

Was your income too high? You cannot claim an education credit if your modified adjusted gross income is over $90,000 ($180,000 for joint filers).
