1095-A question

I am on my father's health insurance plan, but I am not his tax dependent, as I am under the age of 26. He received a 1095-A in the mail but I did not, as I am not the owner of the insurance policy. Do I need to file the 1095-A as well or does he just need to do it?

Yes. You will need to include the 1095-A, but so will your father. You will indicate that the policy is shared with someone who is not on your return. You can enter any allocation percentage agreed upon, even 0% & 100%, as long as the total between all policy holders does not exceed 100%.

    Follow these steps:

    • Click on Deductions & Credits under Federal
    • Under the menu for Medical, click Start/Revisit next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A)
    • Answer Yes indicating that you have the form to enter
    • Complete the information on the next screen to match your form and click continue
