Do I have to amend my tax return if I forgot to add a 1099-B form if both capital gains and dividends are negative and it did not change the money I am getting back?

The IRS states that if you discover an error after filing your return, you may need to amend your return. The IRS may correct mathematical or clerical errors on a return and may accept returns without certain required forms or schedules. In these instances, there's no need to amend your return. However, do file an amended return if there's a change in your filing status, income, deductions, or credits. See IRS Tax Topic 308 for more information.

In order to file an amended return, make sure that your 2019 return was accepted in TurboTax Online or paper-filed through the mail by the IRS.

To prepare an amended return through TurboTax, follow these steps:

Sign in to TurboTax.
Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.
Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
When finished, we'll give you instructions for printing and mailing your amended return as amendments can't be e-filed.
