I have a 1099c from discover student loans. Do i need to report it (federal and for CT)?

It was not a forgiveness but it was cancelled since the private company has decided to remove themselves from the student loan business. I am an EXPAT and have no US income other than this.

Yes, you do need to report it. To report.

  1. Log into your account
  2. Select Wages and income
  3. Less Common income
  4. Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099>start
  5. Go to cancellation of debt.
  6. Enter the 1099C details
