Question

1099-MISC

My son's college transferred money to his account temporarily for use by Engineers Without Borders, a non-profit organization for which he was project manager, for further transfer to the organization's account.  The school's finance dept insisted the board of trustees was not allowed to transfer money directly to the organization's account. This was reported on a 1099-misc as other income . How does he handle this on his tax return?

Thanks

He can report it on his return as self employment income on Schedule C, then claim an expense amount equal to the 1099-Misc amount.

You can use an expense category such as project expenses.
