1099 Misc for Rental

I received approx $3,500 for a rental of vacant land for a cell tower.  This money was from my brother who lives in a different state per the wish of my mother. I do not own the property and am not on the contract with the cell tower and have no say in anything. I received a 1099. Do I have to pay taxes on this?

I expect that you received a 1099-MISC, and yes, you will have to pay taxes on it.

If this is posted as rent go to:

    1. Income
    2. Scroll to Other Common Income
    3. Select Income from a 1099-MISC
    4. Post your information
    5. Under Source of 1099-MISC Income
    6. Select Nonbusiness income from rental of personal property or equipment
    7. Continue to the end.
