1099-NEC and W-2 Issue on TurboTax

A 1099-NEC worker is reporting that he is seeing a nearly double tax increase after entering both his W-2 salary and the 1099-NEC income. I believe TurboTax is taxing the entire income being reported and not only the 1099 income. Is there a way to correct this?

Is the person who had W-2 income and 1099NEC income aware that the income on the 1099NEC is self-employment income for which he pays for Social Security and Medicare?

Thank you; yes, but the taxed amount is displaying higher than the estimated 15.3 percent. It is at about 30 percent, which makes me think it is taxing his entire income.

We can't see what's going on without viewing the entries and we can't view on this forum.  TurboTax has a product which you can chat or speak to an expert and they can view your return, called TurboTax Live.

You have to choose TurboTax Live when you begin your tax return, or you can select it as you are preparing your return.  To select TurboTax Live:

  1. Launch TurboTax
  2. Select Live Tax Advice at the top of your screen
  3. A panel will appear on the right where you have the option to upgrade to TurboTax Live.

Refer to the TurboTax article How do I get TurboTax Live?
