Question

1099g overpayment

I received unemployment during the pandemic and received a letter earlier this year saying I was overpaid and they were going to withhold it from my remaining unemployment payments. I'm now filing my taxes and have realized it doesn't say that I was overpaid on my 1099g. Do I need to get a hold of someone (Who?) or can I file with the 1099g I have received from the irs?

No, you don't need to get a new 1099-G form. Since you received the unemployment benefits in 2021, you'll have to claim the entire amount as income for tax year 2021.

    • When you "repay" the unemployment benefits in tax year 2022, your Form 1099-G unemployment benefits will be less the amount you overpayment.
