Hello,

I purchased the 2018 Turbo filing. I am used to seeing more of credit by way of renters' credit. There seems to be o adjustment in my entry. Can someone clarify?

Depending on the State in which you reside and pay rent will factor into what credit you would receive from them. This credit amount does change periodically and sometimes having nothing to do with your situation, just a number of other economical factors. Check with your State Department of Revenue Web Site and see what the credit is for rent for the year in question.

Hello Wendy. Thanks for the reply.

I reside in California and have always seen a renters credit option when filing. My concern is my Turbo Tax 2018 filing software isn't showing any of that and I was wondering if there is someone I can have a conversation with regarding my credits. They seem very low. Hardly any credit at all in comparison to previous years.

Is there a chance to speak with you or a counselor? I believe that was offered when purchasing the software to file. Please advise.

    Thank you

Yes, renters credit in Califorina was non-refundable. You must qualify to claim the credit. The following were some of the 2018 qualiffications to get the credit.:

    1. Your income was less than $40,078 for single filer ($80,156 for married filing joint)
    2. You paid rent at least 6 months.
    3. The property was not tax-exempt.
    4. The credit was $60 for single ($120 for maried filing joint).

See, nonrefundable renters credit, for more information.
