Question

2019 Was changed by IRS - can I still import the 2019 file into 2020?

Hello,

I made an error on my 2019 return that was corrected by the IRS.  Since the notification said that if I agreed with the correction I need not take further action I did NOT file an amended return.  This means the Turbotax file for my 2019 return does not reflect the actual taxes paid and refund amount.   I did create a second file where I applied the correction and made sure what the IRS did was correct (it was) but that second file was never formally filed with the IRS.  Should I import the (incorrect) file that was sent to the IRS or the (corrected) file that was never sent?  It seems that I should use the corrected file but am concerned about using anything that was not sent to the IRS.  Thanks.

Yes, use the corrected .tax file you created not the one that you sent to the IRS and does not have the IRS correction. By doing this, you'll insure any carryover items will be reflected correctly on your 2020 income tax return.
