I have to file my 2022 and 2023 tax returns and have them both ready to be mailed out. Is it  acceptable to send both your 2022 and 2023 tax returns in the same envelope when filing by mail?

You can mail them on the same day.    But use separate envelopes for each tax year.     After about four weeks you can watch for information on the IRS refund site (if you are getting a refund).

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022 or 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

No. Each should be mailed separately.

Do not do that or you risk one of them being overlooked.   Do not combine them in any way.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Thank you for the quick reply. Should I send the 2022 Federal returns followed by 2023 returns after a few days? Or is it okay to mail the same day but just send them in separate envelopes?
