Question

2023 estimated tax deadline missed twice. How do I divide the payments for remaining deadlines?

I just started working as a freelancer this year and didn't know about quarterly estimated tax payments until now . I understand that I missed the April and June payments and am willing to pay any penalties, but what I was unsure about is how I should be paying for the remainder of the two deadlines.

Do I still need to pay estimated tax as 4 separate payments or should I combine the April and June payments to the September payment? Or split the amount into two for September and January?

I was so used tax being simpler with just w-2s until layoffs happened and now I'm very unprepared on how freelance tax works so any help is very much appreciated!

you can make payments at any time at the IRS website.

make up the 2 today if you want (which will shut off any late interest charges if it comes to that) and then you are back on schedule for Sept 15 and Jan 15.
