Question about stimulus last year I claimed my daughter as a dependent so I got the 3rd stimulus which is a advance on this year filling.  Well this year she cant be claimed as dependent because she did not go to college and made over 4300$. This is the first year she cant file for taxes so do say on her taxes that she didnt get and get the recovery  rebate? Then I pay the stimulus back which does not matter because the amount the same either way.  Or is there a better way either way its going into the same household, just trying to figure out the least complicated way. I also can claim my mother as a dependent this year and she got the 3rd stimulus but this year she can be claimed as a dependent so if I do will she owe the money and I get it on my return. Again it all goes to the same household just trying to figure this all out without being complicated.

    If your mother received her 3rd stimulus payment and you received $1,400 on your daughter's behalf because you claimed her on your 2020 tax return, the IRS records will show that they both have received the 3rd stimulus payments.

    • When your daughter files her own taxes, confirm that she received $1,400;
    • On your return, confirm that you and your mother received $2,800 if only you two are on your return.

    Any other way will delay the processing of your return/refund.
