Question

$60,000 income would give me 3100 Fed and 900 State refunds. I added 15,500 in SS income and will pay 538 Fed 222 State. Why the significant increase in tax? I am 67.

I thought at my age I wouldn’t pay tax on my Social Security  regardless of my income.

0-85% of your Social Security is taxable, depending upon your other (Joint) income. Age does not matter.
