Activation Code

I already installed and activated TT in my computer with the activation code and it worked perfect. The next day I attempted to review my taxes and it is again asking for an activation code. Why?

    I have installed the program to the point that the program has been updated and I have been given the success sign.  When I try to initiate the program it takes me to a blank screen with the words Activation at the top.  It does not have a place for me to enter the activation code nor am I allow to type on the screen.

    Are you using Windows?  If so, a blank, partially-blank, non-functioning, or missing activation screen may be related to either a screen resolution or scaling problem in your Windows settings.

     

    In Windows 10 to get to the scaling or resolution settings click the Windows start button in lower left corner, then choose Settings (gear icon), then System, then Display.   Or for a shortcut, you may be able to simply right-click on an empty area of the main Windows desktop monitor screen (not the TurboTax program screen) and in the popup menu choose "Display settings".

     

    NOTE:  After you change the scaling or resolution setting as discussed below, you may need to close and relaunch TurboTax for the change to take place in that activation window.

     

    First try the scaling setting.  In your Windows Settings do you have scale set to a higher value than the normal 100%?  If so, change it back to 100%. Once the license code is entered and activated, you can later change your scaling setting back like it was.

     

    If lowering the scaling to 100% didn't help, then it may be screen resolution.  Try a lower screen resolution such as 800x600.   If that doesn't work, then try 1024x768.    If still not working, then gradually increase the screen resolution to the next level. Once you get the license activated, you can revert your resolution setting back like it was.

    Even though you bought a CD, did you also happen to download an installation file by any chance before you lost the code?  If so, the code will be in the downloads section of your online TurboTax account.   If you did not download the program, then that won't apply.    Also if you are a TurboTax Advantage member and ordered a CD, the code should also be in the downloads section of your Advantage account along with a complimentary download of the software.

    In addition to @DoninGA suggestions above, if you happen to be a TurboTax Advantage customer (annual subscription), and if you got your CD through that program, you "may" be able to find the activation code in the downloads section of your Advantage account.

    Is it asking you to Activate again?

    Make sure your computer is the same way when you originally installed it. Like with no flash drives plugged in or plugged in if one was. Even a printer plugged in or not. It asked me again so I just closed the program and took out a flash drive that was plugged in and tried again. It worked.

    I bought Ttax2020 through Costco.com in December of 2020.  Now I want to move everything to a new computer.  I installed it but now it wants an Activation code, which I cannot find anywhere...even Costco.com is no help.

    Do you still have your emails?  

    I helped my friend buy the Mac program download from Costco. It went very well. You first get a confirmation email that says…..

    "You will receive the redemption code, normally within the hour, via e-mail. To ensure delivery of your redemption code emails to you inbox, please add CostcoEDelivery@esd.synnex.com to your Email Address book or Safe list."

     

    The 2nd email with the activation key came in 20 minutes. Make sure to write down or print out the 16 digit Key on the email. It is right above the Download Link. Then click on "Click Here" in the email to download the program and follow the install instructions.

     

    Or there should be a way to log into Costco and find it.  Otherwise you can try asking customer service for another code.

    I just replaced by disk drive with a new larger capacity drive.  The technician "cloned" the old drive.  My 2019 and 2020 TurboTax programs require reentry of an Activation Code.  (I have been using TurboTax since 2011 and the earlier versions apparently don't require a code.)  I found the 2019 disk case and code, but have misplaced the 2020.  Can you help.

    How to find my activation code program is loaded and some data has been entered but when tried to open today it asked for the activation code

    Make sure your computer is the same way when you originally installed it.  Like with no flash drives plugged in or plugged in if one was.  It asked me again so I just closed the program and took out a flash drive that was plugged in and tried again.  It worked.  Or you may need to connect a flash drive or printer or something that was connected when you originally installed the program.

     

     

    You need a 14 digit (for 2019) or 16 digit (for 2020) License Code to activate the Desktop program.

    Just spent about 30 minutes with customer support - they pushed a new license to me but this really is a dismal solution. I may use the software at home or in the office (where my computer is connected to a hub) - if the software regards this as a completely different computer, it is the equivalent of getting a hair cut and being regarded as a completely different person.
