Question

After filling out the MN state form, I'm asked to fill out the Annualized Income Installment Worksheet. How can I get this to go away and be resolved?

In the Minnesota tax return, cycle through the state tax return questions.

At the screen Underpayment Penalty, click Continue.

At the screen Penalty it says:

“We computed a penalty for underpayment of Minnesota estimated tax.  Since you chose to annualize your federal income, would you like to see if annualizing your Minnesota income can reduce your Minnesota penalty?”

Answer No.

I never see a “Penalty” screen.

I see a “Penalty Amount” screen. It says, “Based on your entries, we computed no penalty for underpayment of estimated tax for 2019.”

So there is no place for me to respond as you suggest.

In the Review, it still asks me to fill out the Income Installment Worksheet. The issue persists. Suggestions?

You may have chosen the underpayment option in the federal section under "Other Tax Situations" and then "Additional Tax Payments", then "Underpayment Penalties."

I don't believe there is a way to back out of that, you will have to work through the questions.
