Keep getting AL-40-050 rejection. Tried following the steps on other posts, still no luck.

I live in Alabama, worked for a company based in Alabama up till June 2024 and started a new job with a company that's based out of Florida in July 2024.

On my former employers W-2 (out of Alabama), the amount in Box 1 does not match the amount in Box 16. When I left this employer, I did withdraw my money out of my 401k (and paid the penalty) to reinvest it. Not sure if that could be the reason or if it's even relevant.

My new employer's W-2 (out of Florida), Box 15-17 is blank.

Reject code AL40-050 indicates a math error on the Alabama return.  This is typically caused by having a W-2 from another state included with your return, possibly a state that does not have a state income tax.

If one of the W-2s was issued from a state that does not have any state income tax and there was no state information included on that W-2, it is the one causing the mismatch with the Alabama return.  So that means it is probably your new employer W-2 (out of FL) causing the error.  Try entering the box 1 amount on that W-2 in box 16, with nothing else in boxes 15-17.  This should clear the math error on the Alabama return.

If you have determined that all of your W-2s have been entered accurately for boxes 15, 16, and 17 and the electronic filing error continues, then your only choice is to file the Alabama state return by mail.

Followed your instructions, am I going to have to file by mail? It will not let me e-file because it keeps asking for a "Employer ID" on the Florida W-2.

Disregard, I did not read the last paragraph on your post. Thanks for the help.
