Question

Allocate wages for 1 day work in NYC

I worked for a consulting firm with offices all across the US. I live in IL but worked at our firm's NYC office for 1 day in 2019.

My NY W-2 has my full wages listed under "State Wages". And there's already an amount under "State Income Tax". Do i have to file NY non-resident tax form and pay taxes again?

And when i used "Allocate by number of days" and entered "364" days worked outside NY - I still see my full 2019 wages listed under NY. How do I fix this?

You must file a return if you are a nonresident with New York source income and your New York adjusted gross income (Form IT-203, line 31) exceeds your NY Standard deduction.

Filing status Standard deduction amount

Single (and can be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's federal return) $3,100

Single (and cannot be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's federal return) $8,000

Married filing joint return $16,050

Married filing separate return $8,000

Head of household (with qualifying person) $11,200

Qualifying widow(er) $16,050
