Question

Am I correct that if I add my spouse to my return and then we decide to file separately it will be easy to remove him? I won’t have to wipe everything and start over?

No, that's not correct. It's nearly impossible to cleanly remove a spouse from a joint return and change it to separate. Changing from separate to joint and then back to separate is pretty much guaranteed to cause errors in the return the you won't be able to fix. You should start the return over from scratch. Or you could use different TurboTax Online accounts for the separate and joint returns, then pick the one you want to file. Just be careful to keep track of the different accounts and passwords.

What you're trying to do would be easier with the CD/Download TurboTax software. You could create your separate return, save a copy of it with a different file name, and add your spouse to the copy.
