Amend 2020 tax return, just paid German taxes

My wife and I are retired American citizens who moved to Germany in 2020. I've just paid my German income tax for that year. All of our income is US Social Security and OPM pension from the US. My 2020 US tax return was filed using the standard deduction. Does that disqualify me from amending my 2020 return to account for the $2000 paid to Germany?

If you did not pay the tax until 2022, you cannot amend a 2020 return and put it on a 2020 return. Put it on your 2022 return---the tax year in which you actually paid it.
