AMEND NJ STATE RETURN - SHARED RESPONSIBILITY PAYMENT

Hi, on my NJ state return I made a mistake on line 53a. Fill in if anyone in your tax household does not currently have health insurance. I made the mistake and said yes to not currently have health insurance. So now I was charged a penalty fee of $695. How do I amend that so I won't be charged a penalty fee, my household does have current health insurance, all my last taxes return I filed that.

You can amend your New Jersey return, but will need to wait until your original return has been received and processed by the New Jersey Division of Taxation.

In TurboTax, you can prepare your amended return by following the steps as outlined in this link.

Once you are back in your tax return, proceed through the state interview screens for New Jersey.

When you see the screen titled "About Your Health Insurance," make sure you mark the circle to the left of We all had health insurance coverage all year.
