amend question

My wife filed separately (opposed to jointly on accident) and I have not yet finalized my taxes through Turbotax. She has received her refund and we realize for a variety of reasons she needs to amend her taxes so we can file jointly.

My taxes are more complex as I have a job with salary and also earn separate income being  self employed. The amend 1040x form seems too simple for my taxes (expenses and such) and being that I haven't filed yet what is our next step?

Your wife already filed and the two of you want to amend to a joint return?  Then you have to wait for her return to be fully processed so you can amend that one to make it a joint return.  You cannot file your return with your spouse's SSN on it--it would be rejected.

So you will be going to some extra work.

    Thanks for the link.

Being that my taxes are not done, should I finalize them through turbo tax with the filing jointly selected and then have my wife amend hers?

The concern is she received a refund already.
