I did my taxes prior to the uia tax credit and I received regular refund. Just last month I received my uia refunded amount..but I’m still wondering if I have to amend my MI state taxes?

First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to reach out to us today.

I understand that you are inquiring if you need to amend your 2020 State of Michigan tax return to reflect the unemployment compensation exclusion that was passed in the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

Yes, Michigan recommends amending your return to claim the unemployment adjustment.  If you filed your Michigan state income tax return without reporting the unemployment exclusion, you should file an amended Michigan tax return.

For your convenience, I am including a link to the Michigan Department of Treasury announcement regarding the treatment of 2020 unemployment compensation so you can stay up to date with any updates.  This link also includes the instructions for filing a Michigan Amended return. Sign into your TurboTax account to file an amended Form MI-1040.
