Question

Are we getting a refund for the unemployment taxes we paid if we were single, head of household, and claimed the EIC?

I have heard conflicting information about if we claimed dependents, we already got all of our taxes back and will not be receiving a refund for the unemployment taxes.

If you are eligible for the extra refund for federal tax that was withheld from your unemployment the IRS will be sending you an additional refund sometime during the next several months.  TurboTax cannot track or predict when it will be sent.  The IRS has not provided a way for you to track it, so all you can do is wait for the refund to arrive.

If you received a 1099-G for unemployment,  you paid tax on it, and yiur AGI was under $150,000 then you are due for a refund of any tax paid.

If your income was low enough so you had no tax liability (line 15 on the 1040 was zero) then you paid no tax to refund.
