Question

Asking for 5329 form from 2022 but there wasn't one

I don't believe I over contributed to my HSA last year hence it makes sense there wasn't form 5329.  I also changed my plan from high deductible to another plan.

However, during this year's return, it asked for my 5329 and autofilled with 3650 (which is the limit??). Should I just enter $0 instead since I didn't over contribute?

Are you saying that you did not have an HDHP plan in 2023, yet contributed 3,650 anyway? Or did I misunderstand you?

Or are you saying that when you were asked if you overfunded your HSA in 2022, you pressed YES, and on the next screen one of the boxes (sometime two if married) was pre-filled in with 3650? The only place this could have come from is the Carryover Worksheet, which would have reported a 2022 carryover.

Do you have the desktop software? If so, please go into Forms mode and look for (on the left) "Carryover Wks". Look for lines 11a and 11b (you'll see when you get there). Was there anything in column 2022 or 2023?
