What kind of auto-debit?    That can be interpreted two ways.

Did you chose to pay any TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, and now you are getting an emailed bill from TurboTax about a debit of TurboTax fees due to a delayed (or reduced) Federal refund?

Or did you set up a debit with the IRS to pay taxes owed?

The 1st one. I thought I paid from my taxes.

OK.  Here is the answer for the first scenario:

If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, has your Federal refund been delayed at the IRS an unusual amount of time, or was it reduced by the IRS?  In either of those cases, TurboTax would want to be paid and will start emailing you bills to pay the fees.  If there is no response to the emails, they will send an email that they will debit your bank account.  If still not paid, then they submit the auto-debit.   Once they submit it, they can't stop it.

So if you have been emailed that they are going to auto debit your bank account on a certain date, you should phone them ASAP and ask for a deferment.

Once they start the debit process they cannot stop it, and they start it 2-3 days prior to the bank debit.

If the email has a phone number to reach Support, try that first.  If it didn't tell you how to reach Support, here's another way to get a phone number:

I was told there was nothing they could do to stop the debit from my account. Is this true?

What kind of balance due are you referring to?  Balance due for what??   Which of these scenarios below is it??

1)  Have you received an emailed bill for TurboTax product fees because you chose to pay them out of the Federal refund, and the IRS has delayed your refund an unusually long time?   And if so, is TurboTax now threatening to debit your bank account?

 OR

2)  Have you filed a return and owe Federal taxes due, and set up a direct debit date for the IRS to withdraw your taxes owed to them?  And you want to stop that electronic payment of taxes?

Please explain which one of those you are asking about, and we can tell you whom to contact.

The answer to the first situation has already been answered a couple of times in this thread, so if that's your situation, you can scroll up and read the answers above.

My balance due for my tax prep $80, I need an extension  4/17/20, rather than 4/10/20.

As I mentioned in my last comment, if that's your situation, hopefully you scrolled up and read my earlier answers in this thread as I advised and contacted TurboTax Support right away.

If your debit date is 4/10, it might be too late, but if you haven't already phoned them, you need to check quickly.  You need to phone TurboTax ASAP to ask for a deferment, or they'll debit your bank account.   You need to reach them before they actually submit the auto-debit request.    Once they submit it, they say they can't stop it.    For April 10, they may have already submitted it. You need to phone them now.

The FAQ below has a special phone number you can use in its first paragraph:

If you can't reach Support with that phone number, there may be a phone number in your emailed bill warning you of the debit.  If not, here's an alternate way to reach them:

By auto-debit, do you mean for the payment of TurboTax product fees?

If so, this answer will tell you how to phone TurboTax Support and ask for one.  You need to contact them immediately if your auto-debit is scheduled in the next few days.

If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, and if your Federal refund has been delayed unusually long at the IRS (or if it's been reduced), after a certain number of days TurboTax will want to be paid.  They likely started sending you emailed bills to pay.  If you don't respond by either paying or asking for a deferment, they will ultimately debit your bank account.  If you wish to ask for a deferment, you need to do so quickly.

See the FAQ below that explains the process.  The first paragraph of the FAQ has a special phone number if you have a question or have a hardship and need to ask for a deferment.

If you need to ask for a deferment, you should call them right away.  It has to be done by the Tuesday prior to the scheduled auto-debit.  Once they actually start the debit process, they say they can't stop it.

The first paragraph in the FAQ below says:

If you’re in need of assistance, call us by the Tuesday prior to your debit date at 1-888-808-1723 to speak with a trained specialist and mention “auto-debit”, or visit TurboTax Support.

Okay so... The government has indefinitely held up thousands to millions of people's income tax returns and for those of us who chose the Turbo Tax option (extract the processing fee from the return) that actually costs more to do are now getting notices that we are getting billed without having received the return.

Yep you got it right ... but in all fairness you did sign a contract so expecting you to fulfill your part of it is not unreasonable.  Failure to read and/or understand the contract you sign is not a TT error.

In the future check the IRS site to see if you are eligible for any of the FREE FILE options being offered starting mid January each year ...  this year if your AGI was $72K or less then there were 10 free options to choose from...

Hello

Payment already was paid out of Federal Tax return so please do not process what I owe of $168.00 due.

There are not enough funds to cover this amount so seriously do not.

Please response after reading this message.

@mtnjolee   Has the IRS sent your refund yet?

If the IRS is taking too long to send your refund you still have to pay the fees in time.

See What if the IRS reduces your refund or delays it.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/payments/help/what-if-my-federal-refund-isn-t-enough-to-cover-my-turbotax-fees/00/26313

Then when the IRS does send your refund they won't take the fees out again.

And, Why you got charged,

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-was-my-bank-account-auto-debited-for-turbotax-fees/00/26102

You should have received about 4 emails asking for the fees.  If you don't pay they will debit your account.  You had to agree to it.
