Filing a 2019 tax return does not generate a stimulus check directly, but information from any 2019 tax return is part of the information used by the U.S. Treasury Department to determine who should get a stimulus check (and how much).

You don't need to sign up or fill out a form to receive a payment if you've been working and paying taxes since 2018.  Or, if you are on Social Security, you won't need to take any action. The IRS will issue guidelines for people who didn't file a tax return for 2018 or 2019.

People who have not been required to file a tax return who are concerned about a stimulus payment can use the TurboTax Stimulus Registration product at this link.  Stimulus Registration can help people not required to file a tax return to submit all the necessary information to the IRS so they can quickly and easily get their money.
