Yes. If you have not yet filed your taxes, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on Personal Info, You & Your Family,
  2. Scroll to Your Filing Status,
  3. Click Edit, 
  4. Check the box Change my filing status,
  5. Check Single.

Yes, please follow these instructions to make changes to your filing status if you have not filed your tax return:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account 
  2. Click "Work on other tax breaks"
  3. Click "My Info" from the left side of your screen
  4. Scroll down to Filing Status/ Marital status and click “Edit
  5. Continue through the questions until “Did you pay more than half the cost to keep up your home in 2019?” and answer “no

 

If you have already submitted your return:

  • If your return has been rejected by the IRS, all you will have to do is make the changes on your return and refile.
  • If your return has been already accepted by the IRS, you will have to file an amended return (1040X). But you might want to wait until your refund or payment is processed. The IRS will only accept amended returns via mail.

 

The 1040X form for 2019 hasn't been approved yet by IRS. Please, keep checking the following information on how to amend your return; it will be updated once the 2019 form is released:
