Can I change my last name it is misspelled?
My husband misspelled his last name. how can it be change? from Miils to Mills?
If you have not filed your tax return, you can easily update your last name on the tax return.
On the Tax Timeline, select "Personal Info". Then under "Personal Info Summary", scroll until you see your Husband's name and click "Edit". You can then update his information.
If you have already filed your tax return, you cannot change the information unless your return is either Accepted or Rejected by the IRS (it is very likely the return will be rejected if the last name doesn't match the Social Security number on file).
If the return is rejected, you can update the information using the instructions from above to edit then re-submit the return to the IRS.
