Question

Can I claim a deceased parent as a dependant, and will doing so affect his SSI or any other benefits? He passed away December 2019?

If you provided more than half of his support and he otherwise qualified as a "qualifying relative" (see page 25 and following in IRS Pub 17), then yes you can claim your parent as a dependent. His passing in 2019 does not affect that (although the interview may ask, so answer correctly if asked).

We in the Community do not support questions on qualifying for SSI and other benefits. You will have to ask the Social Security Administration.
