Can I claim a foreign child as a dependent since I am married to his mother?

@natewh77 , generally the child has to be living with you  and  your home has to be his/her main home --- it is the same for all dependents ( residency / relationship/support etc. )

Or is your case more contorted -- such the  mother and the child are both in a foreign country awaiting move to the USA  ( which country ) ?  Or the mother is in the USA but the child stays with other relatives in another country and awaiting or does not intend to move to USA but you support him/her ?
