Question

Can I claim an exemption for myself in Illinois even if I am claimed by someone else as a dependent? It looks like that should be correct, but TT won't do it.

This is what a quick search shows - "For tax years beginning January 1, 2020, it is $2,325 per exemption. If someone else can claim you as a dependent and your Illinois base income is $2,325 or less, your exemption allowance is $2,325."  Turbo Tax won't put in the self-exemption, though, so I'm paying IL taxes - don't think it's correct.

if the two tax returns contradict each other, the state will have to resolve the conflict.

That could take a very long time.
