Question

Can I claim education expenses if we are married filing jointly and our joint income is 143,000 a year? It says we are not eligible but none of the reasons apply to us.

There are only 3 education credits or deductions in 2017.

AOTC for undergraduate 4 year degrees https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/college-and-education/what-is-the-american-opportunity-tax-cred...

Lifetime Learning Credit  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/college-and-education/how-to-calculate-your-lifetime-learning-t...

and

student loan interest deductions

Which do you feel you are eligible for as here are income limits.  I can't see your return as this is a public forum.

I found out the tuition and fees deduction ended in 2016. This was not listed anywhere on Turbo Tax so it caused me great confusion as I did not know this. Thanks to Google (which took me back to a different Turbo Tax forum)
