Can I claim my 24 year old child that I supported all year long while he was a full time college student on my taxes, even though he made $15,000?

My son lived at home all year and went to a University full-time for a masters degree. We paid all living expenses for the year and took out loans to pay for tuition.  He worked and made a little over $15,000.  He did not contribute anywhere near half of his living expenses.  Why can I not claim him as a dependent?

If he was not under the age of 24 at year end 2016, you can't claim him. The income limit for someone age 24 or older to be claimed as a dependent is $4050. That is the tax law for dependents.
