My son is 30 and did not have a job for the year, so he didn't make any money, he lives with me and I support him.  Can I claim him as a dependent?

Yes- it seems you are eligible. To claim an older child as a dependent, you need to meet all of these tests:

  1. Not a qualifying child test,  Yes, he's too old to count for this test
  2. Member of household or relationship test, Yes, he is both related to you and lived with you.

  3. Gross income test, and  He needs to have made less than $4050 for 2016

  4. Support test. You need to have provided over half of his support for the year

Based on how you worded your question, it seems you can claim him as a dependent.

Wait  isn’t this a no situation?  I thought they had to be under 24 unless disabled then they could.

This thread is  several years old but the rules are the same.   For 2021 you can claim anyone if they lived with you all year and made less than $4,300 total income for the year.  You can even claim your parents and Social Security doesn't count towarthe income limit.

See IRS Publication 501 starting on page 11 bottom Dependents
