I did not get any previous stimulus because my wife did not have any social. I am not sure i was supposed to get for my kids atleast who are US citizen. I read on the internet that you can claim the  last stimulus in your 2020 tax return. Is that true, what is the best way forward ?

you are being a little cryptic, but let me explain what is changing in the new law

Originally (last spring), if you filed joint in 2018 or 2019 and one you did not have a social security number (i.e. only had an ITIN), then the entire family was ineligible for the stimulus,  Your family got nothing, even if one of the spouses (and all the children) were a US citizen with a SS#.

But the new law changes that.  If you filed joint and one of you does not have a social security number, THAT PERSON is ineligible for the stimulus but the other spouse and the children remain eligible.  That is RETROACTIVE to the 1st stimulus payment

Turbo tax is going to have to change their software to accommodate these changes  so I wouldn't be in a rush to file until you know that you get the credit for the stimulus which will be on Line 30 of Form 1040.  There is really nothing else to do and wait for the software to be updated.

Is that what you were asking?

PS if you both have a SS# now, then the stimulus should appear on Line 30 without issue.  If you test that today it will work for the 1st stimulus and of course it'll take time for the 2nd stimulus to get programmed

Thanks pretty accurate what i was looking for.

I tried Tax return seems it is showing. Though will get the real picture once i have all the forms from my employer and the previous stimulus can appear as credit.

Will keep you posted how it went.

Thank you again!
