Question

Can I e-file or do I have to mail state MA return?

I filed for federal and state of MA extensions by MAIL.  I found out I did not need the extension, so the system let me e-file my federal 1040 yesterday (5/17).  Since I filed an extension by mail for MA, and also paid taxes owed to MA by mail, the system would not let me e-file MA taxes because it wanted to file an extension by e-file, and give access to my bank account to pay the taxes. This was already done by MAIL.  So, it appears I have to paper file the MA return at this point.  Is this correct? and was it okay to e-file my federal return as I did, and mail in the state MA return?

You should be able to click to skip the extension for MA or delete it. See How to Delete . Once it is gone, you can e-file the state.
