Can I efile my 2023 taxes now even though I only mailed my 2022 taxes last week

I mailed my 2022 tax return on October 9, 2024.  I don't know if the IRS received it or not. Can I efile my 2023 tax return on October 15, 2024?  Or must the 2023 return be mailed?

Federal tax refunds are not reported on a federal tax return.

State tax refunds you receive in 2024 only need to be reported on a 2024 federal tax return if you itemized your deductions on the federal tax return for the tax year of the state refund, otherwise the state refunds are also not reported.

You can e-file the 2023 tax return now.

However, when asked for the 2022 AGI for e-filing you need to enter a 0 (zero) for the 2022 AGI since the IRS does not have your 2022 AGI in their database.

Thank you Don in GA!  And also for telling me about the AGI.  That puzzled me as well.  I'm getting a Federal and State refunds from 2022 and 2023 that I assume I will record as refunds when I do my 2024 taxes, correct?  I'll be sure to file by April 15th for 2024.

    Thank you!
