Question

Can I enter a 1098 manually? TurboTax wants to impress me by importing my 1098 from my financial institution but continuously fails. Can I bypass this import process?

I've tried several times on different days to complete this process. Every time it seems to freeze up everything when it tries to import my information. I have the documents in my hand and I have easily entered this information in the past. There is no need to import my 1098. Does anyone know how to get around the import page so that I can just enter it manually?

Here's how to manually enter your mortgage interest statement in TurboTax:

  1. With your return open, search for 1098 and select the Jump to link in the search results.
  2. Follow the instructions to enter your 1098 info.
  3. On the "Let's import your tax info" screen, click the "change how I enter my form" button.
  4. On the "How do you want to add your 1098" screen, click the "type it myself" button.
