There is only one extension to file a tax return. The tax return has to be filed on or before October 15, 2019 to avoid a failure to file penalty if you have taxes owed.

If you are filing a tax return for a tax refund or there are no taxes owed, then there are no penalties for filing after the due date. You have three years from the due date of the tax return to file for a tax refund.
