If you received an IP PIN from the IRS, you will need it to e-file. The IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) which is a 6-digit number that the IRS provides to taxpayers to validate their identity. If you are required to use an IP PIN to file your taxes, they won't get accepted if you don't have it.  You will have to mail your return.

Refer to the following TurboTax Help articles What's an IP PIN? Do I need one? and How do I get my 6-digit IP PIN?

Why are you asking this question in regard to an IP PIN?   It's not clear what the context of your issue is.   It sounds like there should be more to the story.   Have you ever had a 6-digit IP PIN assigned by the IRS?  Did you already efile and got an IP PIN-related rejection?   If so, what is the rejection error code?

Or are you referring to the 5-digit PIN (Signature PIN or "self-select PIN) on the Signature page?   If so, that is not an IP PIN, which is a 6-digit PIN.   The 5-digit PIN is on a screen where you electronically "sign" the return, by choosing a 5-digit PIN (any digits of your choice, except can't be all zeros), entering "today's date", and your birth date.
