Can I get an extension on the TurboTax early-filing discount?

TurboTax has offered me a price discount if I file by Feb 28. But there is a TT bug in computing foreign tax credit that is not scheduled to be fixed before March 3. See this thread:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-credits-deductions/discussion/why-does-tt-give-me-a-foreign-tax-credit-of-61-when-i-said-i-had-no-foreign-income-and-paid-no/00/2499214

In my case, I have no foreign tax credit, but TT insists on claiming a $61 credit, and there appears to no way for me to set it to zero. Thus, I cannot file a correct return until after the Feb 28 deadline for the price discount.

Can this deadline be extended?

This is mainly a user community forum.  I don't know what TurboTax Support would tell you if you phoned them, but I would not be confident they would extend the discount deadline.   If you want to talk to them:

But here's what you can do instead to be sure you get the discount.  The "file by" date is really a "pay by" date.  You can pay in advance to lock in your price.

  • Open your return, if not already open.
  • Click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS.
  • Then choose PRINT CENTER.
  • Then choose "Print/save/preview this year's return." (you don't really have to print)
  • Choose to PAY NOW.  It may try to upsell you some add-on features like MAX, which you can refuse.  Eventually it will prompt for credit/debit card.   You will need to pay upfront.   Do not choose to pay later out of a Federal refund.

ADDENDUM:  If you also have a state return, then to get the state return discount you'd also need to pay for the state return in advance, too.
